Muikamachi Hakkaisan

Muikamachi Hakkaisan ski resort sits on the slopes of the magnificent Mt. Hakkai, one of Niigata Prefecture's most iconic peaks. The resort features 16 courses across a 771-meter vertical drop (376m to 1,147m), accessed by 4 lifts including a ropeway that carries skiers to the summit for expert-only terrain with stunning panoramic views of the Echigo mountains.

The resort is known for its challenging upper mountain terrain, which attracts advanced and expert skiers seeking steep, ungroomed runs with backcountry access. The lower slopes offer more moderate terrain suitable for intermediates. The Hakkaisan area is also famous for its namesake sake brewery, one of Japan's most celebrated, making for an excellent cultural side trip. With approximately 1,000cm of annual snowfall, the resort delivers reliable powder conditions. While smaller and more rugged than the nearby Yuzawa mega-resorts, Hakkaisan offers a more authentic mountain experience for those willing to earn their turns.
