Joetsu Kokusai

Joetsu Kokusai is one of the largest ski resorts in the Yuzawa area of Niigata Prefecture, spanning an impressive 214 hectares with 22 courses and 8 lifts across an 817-meter vertical drop (200m to 1,017m). The resort has the distinction of having its own JR train station (Joetsu Kokusai Skiing Resort-mae Station) directly at the base, making it exceptionally convenient to reach by public transport from Tokyo.

The vast terrain caters to all skill levels, from gentle beginner slopes near the base to challenging advanced runs higher up. The resort's large footprint means it rarely feels crowded even during peak periods. Night skiing is available, and the Hotel Green Plaza Joetsu at the base provides comfortable slope-side accommodation. While the relatively low base elevation of 200m can sometimes mean heavier snow conditions at the bottom, the upper mountain reliably delivers quality snow throughout the season.
