Overview

GALA Yuzawa holds the unique distinction of being the only ski resort in Japan with its own Shinkansen bullet train station. Located just 77 minutes from Tokyo Station, it is by far the most accessible ski resort for day-trippers from the capital. The resort features 17 courses across an 823-meter vertical drop (358m to 1,181m), serviced by 11 lifts including the gondola that whisks skiers directly from the station to the slopes.

The resort receives approximately 1,000cm of snow annually, providing reliable conditions throughout the season. While GALA Yuzawa can get extremely crowded on weekends due to its convenience, weekday visits offer a much more relaxed experience with shorter lift lines. The resort caters well to beginners and intermediates with well-groomed runs, though there are some steeper sections for advanced skiers. Comprehensive rental facilities, restaurants, and an onsen bath at the base make it an ideal choice for visitors who want a hassle-free Japanese ski experience without the need for overnight accommodation.
